This Privacy Policy explains how Vilang ("Vilang", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your information when you use the Vilang mobile app and this website (together, the "Service"). We have tried to write it in plain language. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Our approach to privacy
Vilang is a language learning app. We collect only what we need to run the Service, save your progress, and make the app better. We do not sell your personal information. Where we can, we keep data tied only to your own account. This policy applies to all users of the Service, wherever you are located.
2. Information you provide to us
When you create an account, we collect the details you give us, such as your email address and, if you choose, your name. When you set up the app, we collect your learning preferences, such as the language you want to learn, the language you already know, your level, and your daily goal. If you contact us, we keep the messages you send and our replies so we can help you.
3. Your learning data
As you use Vilang, we store the words you save, the videos you have watched, your quiz and flashcard results, your streak, your points and your progress over time. This is what lets you pick up where you left off, review the right words at the right time, and see how far you have come. Your saved words are stored in your account so they are available on your devices.
4. Information we collect automatically
When you use the Service, we automatically receive some technical information, such as your device type, operating system, app version, language and region settings, general usage events (for example, which screens you open and which features you use), and diagnostic data such as crash reports. We use this to keep the app stable and to understand how it is used. Where required by law, we ask for your consent before collecting analytics.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
This website uses local storage in your browser to remember simple choices, such as your light or dark theme and your language. The app and our service providers may use device identifiers and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to measure performance. You can clear local storage in your browser at any time.
6. How we use your information
We use your information to provide and run the Service, save and sync your progress, personalize your learning (such as which words are due for review), respond to your messages, send reminders and notifications if you ask us to, keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, comply with the law, and improve and develop new features. We do not use your private learning content to advertise to you.
7. Legal bases for processing
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or a similar region, we process your information based on: performing our contract with you (to provide the Service); your consent (for example, optional analytics or push notifications); our legitimate interests (to keep the Service safe and to improve it); and to comply with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
8. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us run Vilang (such as sign-in, app hosting, cloud storage, crash reporting and analytics), and only so they can perform those services for us. We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of people, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition. Any such providers are bound to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
9. Third-party content and services
Vilang shows videos and content created by other people and platforms. When you watch that content, the third party that hosts or created it may have its own terms and privacy practices, which we do not control. We encourage you to review the policies of any third-party service you interact with.
10. How long we keep your information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for as long as we need it to provide the Service and meet our legal obligations. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep some records by law.
11. How we protect your information
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, such as encryption in transit and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to fix problems quickly if they happen.
12. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, to object to or limit certain processing, and to withdraw consent. In the app you can edit your settings, export your vocabulary, and delete your account at any time. You can also turn reminders on or off whenever you like. 13. Children's privacy
Vilang is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age required by the law of your country (for example, under 13 in the United States). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
14. International data transfers
We and our service providers may process and store your information in countries other than the one you live in. These countries may have different data protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards to protect your information when it is transferred across borders.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make important changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
